Understanding broadband speeds
Bandwidth
Bandwidth is the speed of your overall service. This is measured in Megabits per second or Mbps, a Megabit is 1/8th of a Megabyte. The higher Mbps you have, the faster the service will be. A good analogy for bandwidth would be a hose pipe, the greater the bandwidth the larger the diameter of the pipe which in turn can allow more water to flow through it with less resistance.
Throughput speed
This is the speed at which your router can transfer speed or data to the devices you have connected. There are many different factors that can affect throughput speed, one of them is your location in relation to the router. The number of device you have connected at any given time can also affect throughout speeds as well as the time of day - peak time may cause lower speeds.
