Speeds over WiFi

Speeds over WiFi

Unfortunalty we cannot guarantee speeds over a WiFi connection.

We've put in some information to help get the most out of the WiFi signal. Unfortunately there's very little we can do about the WiFi environment in properties aside from customers installing boosters to extend the coverage.

Ways to improve your WiFi signal:
  • check how many devices are connected to your WiFi - the more devices using your WiFi at the same time, the less speed each device will get
  • avoid placing your router on thick materials (such as carpets, etc), next to windows or close to electrical appliances like TVs, microwaves or baby monitors - these will give off their own signals and interfere with your router. Instead, place it on a table or shelf to gain a better signal
  • the thickness of your walls may also play a part in how strong your WiFi signal is - to get the best WiFi coverage we recommend moving your router to a more central position in your home
Your device (smartphone, tablet, laptop, etc) plays an important role in the speed of your WiFi signal. If possible, try testing your WiFi with more than one device – this will allow you to see if the issue is with your device rather than your broadband service.

What else can I do to improve my WiFi performance?
  • restart your device and router
  • check for any software updates
  • clear your device’s cookies and browsers
  • reset your browser
  • close any programs you’re not using

    • Understanding broadband speeds

Bandwidth  Bandwidth is the speed of your overall service. This is measured in Megabits per second or Mbps, a Megabit is 1/8th of a Megabyte. The higher Mbps you have, the faster the service will be.  A good analogy for bandwidth would be a hose ...
