GIG Rural FAQ

GIG Rural FAQ

2021 is a very exciting time for us here at Pine Media as we bring our FTTP (Fibre To The Premise) service to parts of Sheffield's rural areas. Starting Dec 2020 we'll be informing existing Pine Media customers who are in scope to receive the upgrade to preorder the new service. We appreciate you might have a few questions so hopefully you can find the answer you're looking for here but if not then please don't hesitate to ask us directly. https://www.ispreview.co.uk/index.php/2020/08/pine-media-extend-fttp-broadband-into-rural-derbyshire-uk.html

Do I need to preorder the new service?
To ensure you receive the grant needed for free install it's important to place an order as soon as you are able. The grant we are using, provided by DCMS (The Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport) only has limited funding and we anticipate this to be fully committed at the end of Jan. Although this doesn't mean we won't connect your property it does mean that installations in the future may have a significant install fee.

When will it be installed?
Work has already commenced to bring FTTP to areas of S6 & S35. Orders with verified DCMS grants will be installed from Feb onwards, our scheduling team will be contacting customers directly to arrange installations.

Will you cancel my current service?
If your an existing customer with Pine Media we will swap your subscription to the new FTTP price once it is installed. If your service is provided by another company you will need to contact them in order to cancel with them.

My property doesn't show it is available on your checker?
We have carefully mapped out all properties in scope to receive an FTTP connection from us. This is reflected in the Post code checker on our website but there are a few properties that cannot be connected at this moment, either due to the correct infrastructure not been in place or additional work is required that is not fully covered by the grant.

What is the grant that is needed for install?
The Gigabit Broadband Voucher Scheme grant is provided by the DCMS (The Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport) which is a Government funded scheme to help residents and businesses receive access to future proof internet connectivity. The grant covers the cost of the install and helps customers receive a free installation that otherwise would be very expensive.

Do I need to inform you once I have verified the grant?
No, we update our records automatically. Every customer will receive two emails from the DCMS that will need to be verified, one to confirm the grant has been requested and the second to confirm the service has been installed.

Could the availability of the grant run out before 31st Jan?
Potentially but very unlikely. We have carefully costed everything and curated our emailing list accordingly. If you have received the letter and apply before that date you should be able to get installed just fine.

Does installation require garden/drive to be dug up to provide this service?
No, we won't be digging anyones garden or driveway up so there's nothing to worry about on that front.
